Well Robot 2407 is back i the spotlight again after a recent Anti-Suicide group got together and demanded that, what could be the first commercial in a long line of robot spokesperson ads be pulled from the air as it promotes or makes light of a very serious situation. The "American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is calling on General Motors Corp. to
GM Robot Promotes Suicide! Murder It!!
So instead of promoting this proposed concenpt of suicide the group would much rather murder the robot all together. So they are anti-suicide but pro murder? This is getting rediculous, why not carry this theory to all of American culture, Its a Wonderful Life, an American classic displays the main character hurling himself off a bridge to the water below after life deals him a losing hand. So why is this shown back to back on public television during the Christmas season? If this organization is really that upset about it, maybe they should go after the Pro-Suicide group... oh wait, you cant they dont exist... for obvious reasons. People need to learn to look at the ads purpose, this ad was selling Cars, not suicide.
yank the television ad it ran during the Super Bowl depicting a fired factory robot jumping off a bridge."
"In the spot, the quality-obsessed robot makes a mistake and is ejected from a GM plant. After a series of failed job attempts, the depressed robot leaps from a bridge—only to wake up and realize it was all a dream. The group called the ad “offensive and potentially dangerous.” It wants an apology and demands that GM pull the ad from playing on Web sites. GM says it is evaluating the group’s complaint."
Honostly, this has to be the biggest joke to date. The fact that this group is trying to state that the commercial may offer a solution to a population of distressed people that was not before present. This is just outright rediculous, the organization is basically stating that people are morons. "Wow i never new you could do that," is the statement they think this GM ad is envoking.
Its not the depiction of a robot hurling itself off a bridge that brings society to realise they want to kill themselves, its dealing with rediculous groups that make outlandish claims like this. If society is so easily influenced towards death after a 30 second time slot America has much larger issues than the ones being addressed.
