What do you do when you finally deside you can't reinvent the wheel? You get rid of it! Well at least one in this case, or thats what the makers of the new B.R.P. Can-Am Spyder Grand Sport Roadster decided to do. Their new design is not revolutionary, the concept has been around for sometime, VW had a design similar to B.R.P.’s only the VW held more of a car like design, or something you might see out at the salt flats making high speed passes. B.R.P.’s creation looks as if it were the awkward offspring between a snowmobile and a scooter, and because of this it is met with mixed reviews.
"The Spyder is B.R.P.’s first highway-legal vehicle," thats right, you could plop down on this trifecta of design and be cruising the interstate with legal documentation in hand, however we dont doubt that you would be more than likely to be pulled over by the uninformed "Johnny law."
So the design is goofy and still up in the air about how to best describe it, so what about the performance? Perhaps some earth shattering numbers would put those nay sayers in their places. Well, "the Spyder, which the company says can reach 110 miles an hour, uses a 106-horsepower Rotax V-twin — the kind of engine found in sport motorcycles made by Aprilia — to drive the rear wheel," not bad, but not great either.
"The Spyder, which in most jurisdictions will require a motorcycle or three-wheeler driver’s license, will be introduced to dealers and the press on Friday in San Diego," and it "will go on sale this fall in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Wisconsin and Virginia, as well as the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec. By next January, nine more states will be added as well as France and Spain." That should give you plenty of time to save up for the $14,999 - $16,499 price tag.
Love it or hate it there it is. Perhaps the only true way to get any real idea about the overall worth of this vehicle is to drive it, but you might not want to roll up to your local biker hangout just yet...
